COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Thousands of workers across Ohio will get a raise to begin 2020.
The Ohio Department of Commerce says the minimum wage for non-tipped employees across the state will go up $0.15, to $8.70 an hour.
Tipped employees will get a minimum wage of $4.35 an hour, plus tips.
The increase takes effect January 1st, 2020. It's thanks to a referendum passed by Ohioans in 2006, that ties the wage increase to the rate of inflation, and is re-evaluated every year.
The new minimum wage still has Ohio behind West Virginia and Michigan, but ahead of Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Kentucky.
