Car Crashes Into Townhouse, Causes Fire. One Dead

COLUMBUS, Ohio, (WTVN)--Reports of gunshots, followed by a car into a building, starting a fire, all led to one person dead on Columbus's southeast side Sunday afternoon.

Columbus Police say the scene unfolded along Georges Creek Drive, near Gender Road, happened just after 4PM. Officers arrived on scene to find the car into the building, and the structure engulfed in flames.

When the fire was extinguished, the victim was found inside the vehicle. Another occupant of the vehicle was able to escape with minor injuries.

There was also a resident on the 2nd floor of the building inside at the time of the incident. That person was able to jump from a window, and had only minor injuries.

Police have not identified the victim in the incident, nor the cause of death. It is considered Columbus's 8th homicide of 2020.
