Teenage Robbery Suspect Dead in Officer-Involved Shooting

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--An armed robbery suspect is dead after being confronted by police on Columbus's east side Thursday evening.

Officers say they received a call about a robbery in progress from the CVS Pharmacy on East Broad Street, near James Road, around 6PM, where the suspect was armed with a gun, and attempting to rob the pharmacy section of the store.

Two Columbus Police Officers responded and confronted the suspect, and the officers opened fire.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to Grant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A gun was recovered from the scene, and no officers were injured.

The suspect has been identified as 15-year-old Abdirahman Salad.

The officers involved have been placed on leave, per department policy and pending an investigation.
