COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Columbus Police say the death of a 12-year-old boy in the Hilltop Monday evening was the result of an accidental shooting.
Officers responded to the call of a shooting at a residence along South Warren Avenue just before 7PM, where the victim was found with a gunshot wound.
Medics pronounced 12-year-old Demitri Gore dead at the scene.
The investigation and witness accounts indicate the shooting was the result of unsafe handling of a loaded firearm. Detectives are still working on exactly how the shooting occurred, who was involved, and how the firearm was obtained.
The investigation continues with more interviews, but at this point, police believe it was nothing more than an unfortunate tragedy.
