COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--With a spike in the number of jobless workers amid the Coronavirus crisis in Ohio, Governor Mike DeWine is deploying 300 members of the Ohio National Guard.
Major General John C. Harris says they will be assisting the Ohio Department of Job And Family Services with packaging and distributing food and supplies to those affected by the outbreak.
He notes that as of Thursday, guard members will not be assisting with COVID-19 testing, nor setting up temporary hospital units to assist patients.
He says their mission may change if the Governor issues an order.
Members of the National Guard hold civilian jobs or attend school while conducting their military training part time.
