Ohio School Closings Extended to May 1st

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Governor Mike DeWine has extended the order that closes all of the state's schools through May 1st.

The governor, in his Monday press conference, said it is not expected, as he originally issued the order three weeks ago, amid the coronavirus outbreak.

He says the extended closure will be re-evaluated one we get closer to that date. He thanked teachers and administrators for their cooperation during a difficult time, as well as thanked parents and students for their support.

The order still applies to all K-12 public, private, and charter schools.

The Ohio legislature earlier also removed the state testing mandates for the 2019-2020 school year.
