Dr. Amy Acton Resigns as ODH Director

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--In what came as a shock to many on Thursday, Dr. Amy Acton resigned as Director of the Ohio Department of Health.

She was thrust into the spotlight during the coronavirus pandemic, frequently appearing in daily press conferences with Governor Mike DeWine, and breaking down the numbers on cases. She was also part of the effort to urge Ohioans to wear a mask and to practice social distancing during the pandemic.

Dr. Acton also spearheaded many of the orders that forced Ohio businesses to close to stop the spread of coronavirus.

DeWine says Dr. Acton will now serve as his Chief health Advisor. Lance Himes will serve as ODH Interim Director until a permanent replacement is found.
