Columbus City Council Sets Penalties For Mask Order Violations

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Columbus City Council has codified the Mayor's executive order regarding the requirement of wearing a mask in public, which includes fines for violations.

The order officially takes effect Tuesday July 7th at 8AM. It replaces the Mayor's executive order, which went into effect last week.

Fines are possible for both individuals and businesses who do not enforce the order. For individuals, fines start with a 2nd violation, at $25.

Businesses failing to enforce mask rules may be fined $500 on their second violation and $1,000 on the third violation.

Columbus is just one of many cities across Franklin County now requiring a mask, to slow the spread of coronavirus. Dublin, Grandview, Bexley, Whitehall, Westerville, Upper Arlington, and Hilliard are now all requiring individuals to wear a mask while in public.
