Governor Signs Bill Protecting Essential Workers from COVID-19 Lawsuits

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Governor Mike DeWine has signed a bill that protects essential workers across the state from civil lawsuits, that can claim they unknowingly spread the coronavirus in the workplace.

House Bill 606 applies to healthcare workers, school teachers and employees, and others that are considered essential.

Ohio Senate President Larry Obhof says the one exception to the rule is if a business owner, school, or healthcare provider acted with reckless intentional misconduct to spread the virus.

The bill is retroactive to March of 2020, and applies until September of 2021. The bill received no support from Democrats in the Ohio Senate.
