One Dead, Two Injured in Attempted Robbery, Shooting

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--An attempted robbery of a convenience store on Columbus's northeast side early Friday resulted in a shooting that left one person dead, and two others injured.

Police responded to the call just after 1AM of the shooting at the Beechcroft Newstand on East Dublin-Granville Road. They say two suspects entered the business while armed, and demanded money.

The clerk ended up exchanging gunfire with the suspects, killing one of them. The other suspect fired shots that hit the clerk and another customer, before fleeing.

The police report indicates that 20-year-old Daythan Jones was arrested and charged with murder. 19-year-old Juanye Hawkins-Payne died as a result.

The clerk and the customer were both taken to local hospitals, where they were treated and released.
