OSU Student Killed in Weekend Shooting Near Campus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Columbus Police say a suspect is in custody for a fatal shooting that occurred near the OSU campus over the weekend, with the victim a student.

Officers say 19-year-old Kintie Mitchell Jr. got into an altercation with 23-year-old Chase Meola outside a party along E. 14th Avenue early Sunday morning.

Shots were fired, and officers arrived on scene to find Meola in a parking area, unresponsive, with a gunshot wound.

Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. Meola was a Marketing student from New Jersey.

Mitchell was identified as as the suspect, and was arrested and charged with murder. He has a prior criminal history, and was out on bond from a burglary charge in February.

Investigators are still working to determine why Mitchell was at the party. He is not a student at the university.
