COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A California man has been sentenced to one year in prison for posting threats online against Ohio State football players, coaches, and the university during "The Game" in 2018.

The US District Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio says 29-year-old Daniel Lee Trippy posted the threats to facebook during the matchup between Ohio State and Michigan in 2018, with the game played in Columbus.

Prosecutors said he threatened a shooting , and vowed to hurt football players, and sent other threats targeted at players' family members and their head coach.

Rippy's prior connections to the state of Michigan initially concerned law enforcement officials, since he could easily travel to, or be at, the game. Officials ultimately determined that Rippy was in California at the time.

Rippy pled guilty in July to one count of making a threat in interstate communications.
