WASHINGTON, DC (WTVN)--US Senator Rob Portman announced on Monday he will not seek another term, once his current term ends in 2022.

In a statement released Monday, the Republican Portman said, "This was not an easy decision because representing the people of Ohio has been an honor. But I’ve been doing this a long time, longer than I ever intended."

Portman first ran for Senate in 2010, when fellow Republican George Voinovich announced his retirement. Portman won election then, and won another term in 2016.

He served in the White House for both Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, and was a congressman for 12 years from the Cincinnati area.
