COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A Franklin County grand jury has indicted a former Columbus Police officer on three charges for the shooting death of Andre Hill on December 22nd, 2020.

Adam Coy is charged with murder, felonious assault, and dereliction of duty for the incident, where Hill was unarmed at the time of the shooting.

Police responded to the scene on a noise complaint, and Hill was holding a cell phone when he was shot. Coy did not turn on his body camera until after the shooting, and the footage did not record audio of the incident itself.

Coy was fired shortly after the incident, and was arrested Wednesday, following his indictment. His first court appearance is Thursday morning.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost says the evidence supports the indictment, and his office will vigorously prosecute the case.

A statement from the office of the Columbus Chief of Police says they continue to fully cooperate with the Ohio Attorney General's Office, and the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office.
