Franklin County Sheriff's Deputy Arrested on Child Porn Charges

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A Deputy with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office is now on the other side of the law, arrested for possession of child pornography.

The FBI had been investigating Officer Daniel Heintz, who worked as a corrections officer at the County Jail.

the FBI discovered thousands of illegal images on digital devices in his home during a search earlier this month. Federal prosecutors say the arrest of a man in Illinois on child enticement charges led them to Heintz, who had multiple conversations with the suspect over the Kik Messenger app.

Heintz has been placed on unpaid leave while his termination is being processed.

Franklin County Sheriff Dallas Baldwin released a statement, saying, "I’m proud of the hundreds of deputies and other sheriff’s office employees who work hard and dedicate themselves to protecting Franklin County families. On those rare occasions when an independent investigation finds probable cause that an employee committed a felony, I take swift action to hold that person accountable."
