COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A smaller portion of Buckeye nation attended Saturday's game between Ohio State and Tulsa.
The university put the official attendance Saturday at 76,540, which is about 30,000 tickets short of a sellout for Ohio Stadium.
Jack Park, an unofficial historian for the OSU football program, says that's the lowest attendance figure for a home game since 1971.
Park points to a number of factors in the low attendance, including the hot weather, COVID restrictions, and the lackluster opponent.
The game also followed Ohio State's disappointing loss to Oregon the prior week.
OSU spokesman Jerry Emig says about 20,000 tickets were sold to fans, but they just did not show up.
The Buckeyes are home again this Saturday, September 25th, against Akron
