Former FCSO Deputy Indicted in Shooting Death of Casey Goodson Jr.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A former Franklin County Sheriff's Deputy is charged with murder, in the shooting death of Casey Goodson Jr.

A grand jury returned two counts of murder and one of reckless homicide against Jason Meade on Thursday.

Meade was assisting in the execution of a search warrant for the U-S Marshal's Service on December 4th, 2020. Meade confronted Goodson at his home, after claiming he drove by the scene waiving a gun.

The confrontation resulted in Goodson being shot six times, with the Franklin County Coroner saying he was shot five times in the back.

The coroner ruled Goodson's death a homicide. Meade was placed on leave shortly after the shooting, and retired in July of 2021.

There was no body cam footage of the incident, since Franklin County Sheriff's Deputies were not equipped with them, or required to wear them, at the time.
