President Donald Trump said Monday that he will name airline CEO Bryan Bedford to lead the Federal Aviation Administration, which finds itself at a turning point following the first fatal U.S. airline crash in nearly two decades.
If confirmed, Bedford, who has about 30 years of experience in the airline industry and is currently head of Republic Airways, will have to lead the agency through the biggest set of challenges it’s faced in decades. That includes finding a way to hire more air traffic controllers, updating antiquated facilities and navigating the fallout from a midair collision last month that killed 67 people.
