Movie notes... Blade Runner update and Robocop

More of Jared Leto’s replicants are on view and new plot details have been revealed in the new trailer for Blade Runner 2049. In it, replicants have the ability to send what remains of society into a downward spiral. "Every leap of civilization was built off the backs of slaves," says Leto. "Replicants are the future, but I can only make so many. I have the lock, and he has the key." Harrison Ford’s Rick Deckard also pops up to explain his experience to Ryan Gosling’s LAPD Officer K. Denis Villeneuve helms the sequel to the 1982 classic. Robin Wright and Ana de Armas also star. Blade Runner 2049 will go wide on October 6th.

Oh yeah... and Monday marked the thirtieth anniversary of the release of RoboCop and Alamo Drafthouse marked the occasion by announcing that the film will return to theaters for one night only on September 10th. The RoboCop himself, Peter Weller, will be on hand for a post-screening Q&A. The film will be live-streamed to theaters around the country from Dallas City Hall, where the event will be based. The City Hall also served as the backdrop to RoboCop’s OCP Headquarters scenes. The event will also feature food trucks, a full bar and photo ops. While the film was a hit in 1987, its popularity has grown over time.
