President Trump traveled to Texas on Tuesday (August 29th), where he offered assurances that his administration will help the region recover from Hurricane Harvey, and praised the response of officials to the destructive storm. Trump didn't go to Houston, not wanting to divert resources for a presidential visit that would disrupt the recovery operations, but he plans to return over the weekend to survey the damage and meet with some of the storm's victims. Instead he and his wife Melania went to Corpus Christi, where he got a short briefing in a firehouse, then traveled on to Austin to meet with officials at the state emergency operations center. Trump spoke briefly to a crowd that gathered outside the Corpus Christi firehouse, saying, "It's epic what happened, but you know what, it happened in Texas, and Texas can handle anything." He also declared, "What a crowd, what a turnout," before waving a Texas flag to the cheers of those gathered.
