Two 15-year-old students were killed and 17 others were injured when a classmate opened fire at Marshall County High School in rural Benton, Kentucky, yesterday morning (January 23rd). Five of the injured were in critical condition last night. The accused attacker, who's also 15, began shooting with a pistol in a busy common area in the center of the school, killing Bailey Nicole Holt and Preston Ryan Cope. Police were not yet identifying the shooter, but he is in custody. Prosecutors will reportedly request that the case be moved to adult court.
The New York Times reported that this was the 11th school shooting since the year began just over three weeks earlier.
