Peter Fonda is very upset

Sony Pictures Classics said that it will move forward with its planned release of Boundaries, in which he plays a supporting role, even as it criticized his remarks about the First Family as “abhorrent, reckless and dangerous.”

In response to immigrant children being separated from their parents at the U.S.- Mexico border, Fonda sent out a tweet in all caps saying “WE SHOULD RIP BARRON TRUMP FROM HIS MOTHER’S ARMS AND PUT HIM IN A CAGE” to get Melania Trump’s attention. He added that he should be put in a cage with pedophiles, which sparked shock and outrage. 

A spokesperson for Barron's mother Melania Trump called the tweet “sick and irresponsible” while Donald Trump Jr. noted the difference in industry reactions to Fonda and Roseanne Barr, whose highly successful titular reboot was canceled when she issued a racist tweet. 

On Wednesday, Fonda apologized for the tweet after garnering blowback from both sides of the aisle.

In his apology, Fonda wrote: “I tweeted something highly inappropriate and vulgar about the president and his family in response to the devastating images I was seeing on television. Like many Americans, I am very impassioned and distraught over the situation with children separated from their families at the border, but I went way too far.”He also encouraged people to protest the policies, tweeting in part: “90 million people in the streets on the same weekend works. I can’t be the organizer for they’ll arrest me for conspiracy to commit sedition.”Boundaries, starring Vera Farmiga and Christopher Plummer, is set to open Friday
