Jet crash in Mexico

All 103 passengers and crew members on board survived after an Aeromexico jet crashed while taking off during a severe storm yestesrday (July 31st), dropping down in a field nearly intact and then catching on fire. Some 50 people were hospitalized, most of them with minor injuries, with the pilot and one other person in serious but stable condition. Governor Jose Aispuro said a gust of wind hit the Embraer 190 jet shortly after it took off, causing it to lose speed and hit the ground with its left wing, knocking both engines loose. Aispuro said the plane skidded into a field in a horizontal position, which allowed the escape slides to work so that everyone could evacuate before the plane caught fire. The plane was heading from Durango in northern Meixco to Mexico City.
