The New York Mets' Pete Alonso won the All-Star Home Run Derby last night (July 8th) in Cleveland, outlasting fellow rookie Vladimir Guerrero Jr.of the Toronto Blue Jays 23-22 in the competition's final round on the eve of Major League Baseball's All-Star Game. Even though he lost, Guerrero had an historic night, hitting a Derby record 91 homers, many of them in an epic semifinal against the Los Angeles Dodgers' Joc Pederson. Alonso will donate 10 percent of his $1 million prize money to charity, half to the Wounded Warrior Project and half to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
